HEALTH & FITNESS

On my way to a healthier and fitter me! I've been on a journey to live better, feel better, and be better.  I started out a little over a year ago by changing the way I eat and really being more consistent with exercise.  Since I've embarked upon this journey I've shed a considerable amount of pounds and feel so much healthier and confident about how I look.

I would like you to join me as I continue this journey to improve each day and not just make it a temporary thing.  Let's be accountable one to another by making goals, keeping committments, and not looking back to what we could have done but ahead to what we want to do. At my heaviest, I weighed 262.5.  I never thought I would ever be that heavy and I certainly didn't know I had gotten that heavy until I had to step on the scale.  The fact that my clothes would no longer fit and I was frustrated each Sunday as I tried to dress for church was not enough to give me the revelation that my body was out of control.  So, as most do, I diluted myself and continued to not change my habits to improve my health and self esteem. But many pounds later and now finally back under 200 pounds I can say that I have totally embraced a healthier me.  I feel extremely healthy! No more frustration when I walk into my closet or go to the store to purchase clothes.  I don't have to keep going up a size with each visit. I've had to go down several sizes on subsequent trips to the store.

I began my weight loss journey by walking for 30 minutes each day.  Since I've always had an issue with my lower back when I'm too heavy I did have some difficulty in the beginning with my walking program.  But I did not allow that to deter me from my goal of slimming down.  As I progressed I started a walk/run program at a local gym.  This quickly turned into a running program combined with weight lifting.  Needless to say, a fitness program without changing your eating is ineffective, so I did improve my eating by changing my diet considerably.  One of the things, that motivated me more than weight loss is the insominia I suffered, night sweats, and hot flashes all associated not only with this period in my life, but largely to my diet.  There are some things in your diet at this stage in life that are more harmful than good, so I researched and found which foods are triggers and removed them as not to continue to add to the mounting issues being unhealthy and overweight can cause.

There are some foods that are common triggers, but in some cases there may be foods that are more of a trigger for certain individuals.  I took the cue and made the changes necessary.  It was important to me to be the healthiest me I could be.  In addition, I could certainly not expect other people to respect and appreciate me more than I did myself.  Of course, it is very difficult to sing, preach, and stand for long periods of time praying for people when you are uncomfortable in your own body.  Though I have not arrived at my final destination in slimming down, I am so much closer than I was before.  I can see light at the end of the tunnel so to speak.  I've recently embark upon doing an extreme cardio program called "Insanity" and I'm amazed at how fit I thought I was before beginning this.  It has taught me there is always another level of fitness.  I started the program September 28, 2012 and in the first month I trimmed two inches off my waist. Abdominal fat is a common struggle for women in my age bracket, I was excited to finally see my waist line trimming down.  Although I had slimmed down considerably there were trouble areas that were stubbon and resistant.  My running and weight lifting regimen could not do what this new program is doing.

I have about 5 more weeks on the 60 day rotation.  I will try to keep you informed of my progress and post more pictures.  I will likely do another rotation, then up the fitness challenge by doing "The Asylum". I'm considering doing a VBlog and share my experience with this program and my weightloss regimen.  If you have any questions and/or comments, please feel free to message me.

Check out my new page FITNESS4DIVAS where I will be sharing my experience, exercise regimen, and fitness progress.
